Code of ethics

Judge’s Code of Ethics – Czech Brew Star

As a judge of the Czech Brew Star competition, you are a vital part of the process that ensures the integrity and objectivity of beer evaluation. Your judgment and professionalism are essential to maintaining the high prestige of the competition. This Code of Ethics defines the principles of conduct and decision-making that every judge must uphold.

1. Impartiality and Objectivity

Evaluate without bias: Your judgment must be based solely on the sensory characteristics of the beer and its compliance with the category. Disregard the brand, brewery, country of origin, or any personal preferences.

No conflict of interest: You must not evaluate beers in whose production, distribution, or promotion you were directly involved or in which you have a financial or personal interest. If you recognize such a beer, immediately inform the panel leader.

Avoid influence: Do not attempt to influence other judges and do not allow yourself to be influenced. Panel discussions should serve to clarify impressions, not to impose opinions.

2. Confidentiality

Maintain discretion: All information regarding the evaluated samples (e.g., brands, names, recipe specifics) is strictly confidential and must not be shared outside the judging panel, even after the competition ends.

Protect results: Evaluation results remain confidential until the official announcement. You may not disclose or hint at results to anyone, including competition participants or media representatives.

3. Professionalism and Responsibility

Preparation and punctuality: Familiarize yourself with the competition rules and evaluation criteria in advance. Arrive on time and ready for the task.

Focus and attention: Stay fully focused on the tasting process during evaluation. Avoid distractions such as mobile phones or irrelevant conversations.

Physical readiness: Ensure you are in good health on the judging day and capable of using your sensory abilities to their fullest (e.g., no illness affecting smell or taste).

Moderation: Consume alcohol responsibly to maintain your ability to judge accurately. Always remain sober and objective.

4. Respect and Cooperation

Mutual respect: Treat fellow judges, the organizing team, and all staff members with respect.

Constructive discussion: Participate in panel discussions constructively, aiming for the best possible evaluation outcome—not to dominate with your opinion.

Follow instructions: Always adhere to the instructions given by panel leaders and competition organizers.

By adhering to this Code of Ethics, you contribute to the professionalism, credibility, and high quality of the Czech Brew Star competition.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to excellence.
